REPLACEMENT TAGS- LOBSTER LFA25 August 3, 2023

Members of LFA25,

Following a vote held at the Maritime Fishermen's Union (MFU) Local 2 and 5 AGMS, fishermen have requested changes to how the MFU issues replacement tags during the lobster fishery.

Starting August 9, 2023:

  • The MFU will issue a maximum of 10 replacement tags.

  • Beyond these 10 tags, the MFU will contact DFO to request a replacement authorization.

  • This does not apply if the fisherman is in possession of the tags to be replaced (old or broken tags are considered legitimate evidence).

This does not mean there is a limit on the total number of replacement tags a fisher can receive.

Authorization to replace your missing tags will be issued after DFO officers have inspected your traps.

This measure is aimed at controlling the number of traps and better protecting the resource.
